Little about Yonder Bar says hospitality success story. Not the address (adjacent to the car park of Coles Margaret River) or its exterior (the bar’s facade could best be described as large outhouse). Nonetheless, Leon Carroll’s little dive bar that could has won over locals and visitors alike.

Licensed for just 25 drinkers, Yonder Bar is the kind of speakeasy every town wishes it had. Its decor falls between university dorm room and 20-something bachelor den with its mismatched seating, velour couches and pinball machine in the corner.

Music is a big part of the charm and a sign above the bar suggests those that don’t like it loud might want to head elsewhere. The drinks offering is as eclectic as the furnishings. Local wines from lesser-known producers are poured by the glass, and boutique international beers are a speciality. When it comes to cocktails, put your trust in the hands of the skilled bar staff and look beyond the classics.

While many of Yonder’s peers offer guests food, eating options here are – in dive-bar tradition – limited to packets of chips and pork crackling.
