The Best Wineries in Margaret River
The Margaret River region (also a town of the same name) is Western Australia’s wine heartland. Three hours’ south of Perth, it has more than 187 wineries and more than 90 cellar doors to explore. The wine here isn’t just good – it’s excellent. The area is world-renowned for its high-definition chardonnay and complex, multilayered cabernet sauvignon, though many varieties flourish in the moderate Mediterranean-ish climate. That reputation has been built over generations by stalwarts like Vasse Felix, Cullen Wines and Leeuwin Estate. Alongside them, relative newcomers such as Si Vintners, Dormilona, Sam Vinciullo, Tripe Iscariot and Las Vino are drawing up blueprints for the region’s future. (Only a few of this crowd have cellar doors, so look out for their wines in the local wine bars and bottle shops.) And take note of these wineries, curated by Broadsheet’s expert food and drink editors, before your next trip to the area.
