United Cup Finals at Ken Rosewall Arena, Sydney Olympic Park

To kick off the summer of tennis, world tennis superstars are in Sydney for the United Cup. Playing for their countries, the mixed-teams tournament began in late December, and the winners will be crowned this weekend.

With defending champs Team Germany out of the running, the gong could be anyone’s. At time of writing, the USA, Kazakhstan and Poland are definite semifinalists, with Italy and Czechia both hoping to join them.

The second quarter final between Italy and Czechia takes place on Friday January 3, with semi finals on Saturday January 4. To close out the season, Sunday January 5 will see the top two teams battling it in the final for a portion of the nearly $18 million prize pool.

Of course, there’s more than just tennis playing out at Sydney Olympic Park. Attendees can also enjoy live sets from a line-up of DJs (on January 3 and 5), a hitting wall, a pop tennis court, and giveaways. There are also pop-up food outlets and bars, including an Aperol fan zone, and activities for the kids – think a tennis hot shots court, face-painting and a passport game.
