A shopping centre is hardly the picture of peace and calm. Yet that’s precisely what you’ll find on level two of the newly developed Karrinyup. There, just beyond the signature bergamot and lavender scent of Endota Day Spa, is Synkro, a one-stop-wellness shop that opened in early March.
Founder Andrew Ballantyne describes Synkro as a multifaceted fitness, treatment and wellness centre; a space that nurtures the mind, body and spirit simultaneously. Physiotherapists and personal trainers – and even a spiritual teacher – work in sync, co-managing clients to achieve their goals. (Self-described shaman and spiritual teacher Deb Macintyre says she combines her studies in psychology with neuroscience, eastern Vedic philosophy and Ayurveda).
“We have quite an array of people here, all the way from our life coach to energy healings and massage,” says Ballantyne. “Whatever people’s wellness journey is, we cover it.”

SUBSCRIBE NOWWellness hasn’t always been Ballantyne’s beat. For years, he worked as a jeweller in the family business before moving on to open and manage three Pandora Jewellery stores. “Having worked as a qualified jeweller in my twenties, I realised there was something missing,” says Ballantyne. “I felt my life was lacking purpose … It was time to create a project that would align with my passions for helping people, wellbeing and business. And so, the concept of Synkro was born.”
Synkro’s signature experience is the Humming Hive, which uses rhythmic sound and a custom-built floor to deliver low-frequency vibration through the body. It’s meant to slow your brain waves and bring you to a restorative state. Premium members can attend two sessions per week. Members also have full access to the gym, group fitness classes – think yoga, HIIT, reformer pilates, Jungle Body (a dance-based fitness class) and boxing – and health practitioner wellness classes including reiki, breath work, meditation and hypnotherapy.
“We’ve got yin yoga classes being run by our chiropractor, Doctor Simon Martin. You’ve got stretch classes run by the same physios that work on the West Coast Eagles,” says Ballantyne.
There’s also a health bar serving coffee, smoothies and raw food, a day spa with eight treatment rooms and a relaxation lounge, plus a creche.
Synkro offers far more than your standard gym or meditative centre. It’s aligned more closely with the kind of wellness retreat you’d find in the southern regions or in Bali. “Often, when people talk about having retreat centres, we envision it out in the forest and as a getaway from life,” says Martin. “But this is something quite integrated. We’re in a shopping centre, and it’s easy to just drop into a sound healing or meditation after a busy office day.”
