“What good new restaurants should I try?”

Broadsheet’s editors field this question, or a variation on it, almost every day. While we’d just as soon recommend one of Melbourne's straight-up best restaurants or a long-standing institution, the pull of a hot new place is hard to deny. So here it is: our edit of the best new restaurants in Adelaide, updated regularly. Some of these places are redefining the way we eat and will go on to become classics. Others will be shorter lived. Either way, these are the spots we’re enjoying eating and drinking at right now.

  • Garden-green pasties served on tuckshop bags. White-bread tommy ruff sangas. Golden Gaytime semifreddo. The casual sibling to one of Australia’s best restaurants serves your favourite childhood treats, all grown up.

  • The Osteria Oggi crew’s Hutt Street hotspot isn’t a restaurant. It’s best thought of as a bar with knockout food – one that’s open all day and flaunts Italian-ish cocktails until late.

  • A bijou bistro-style dining destination with a former Summertown Aristologist chef in the kitchen and produce-led plates on the menu.

  • The Melbourne-bred chain is bringing its Nashville-hot tenders, chicken sandwiches and boozy slushies to South Australia – for good this time.

  • Hit this seaside hotspot by the Dolly and Lune team for a menu covering all regions of Italy – with some wider Mediterranean influences thrown in for a little extra fun.

  • The Good Gilbert team’s fun diner pays tribute to Middle Eastern, Mediterranean and Maghrebi cuisines. A tight wine list is backed up by tea-based nonalc cocktails and boozy alternatives.
