Mo’st
Features
Mo’st – part of Barrack Place – sells rou jia mo, a doughy and firm Chinese bun filled with fatty meat and sometimes coriander, capsicum and cumin. It’s said to be the world’s oldest sandwich, dating back 2300 years to China’s Zhou Dynasty, and is the most famous dish of Shaanxi, a far north-west province of China.
A traditional rou jia mo would be palm sized and sold on the street as a snack, but at Mo’st they’re double the size. The process to make them, though, is the same. Everything here is fresh, and the meat is chopped in front of you.
The region is also known for cold noodles and meaty soups. And Mo’st serves less-traditional rice-coated five-spice meatballs with chips and pickles, and Hainanese chicken with fried onion and cucumber.
You can also order flat whites and ice lattes made with Five Senses beans, or something from the range of high-quality Chinese teas provided by Ms Cattea.
