Features
Adelaide’s city centre has a constellation of fine Asian restaurants. That makes it a notoriously tough nut to crack. There are lots of Thai, Vietnamese, Japanese and Chinese restaurants jostling for attention. Since 2017, there's been a wave of Korean restaurants the have been steadily opening – May Q is part of that.
May Q is a great introduction to Korean food. Barbeque and Korean-style fried chicken have stolen the headlines in recent years – and they’re here in parts too – but the menu is focused on a concise range of classics. There’s the tteok-bokki (fried cylinders of spicy rice cake) and a seafood pancake so large it’ll droop over your plate. A classic line-up of fried dumplings round things off well.
Pair it all with soju, the clear and crisp Korean spirit. There’s a good range at May Q, and thanks to the spirit’s low ABV, it’s easy to have several glasses over dinner.
