A meandering, tree-lined road in Red Hill – deep in the Mornington Peninsula’s lush hinterland – leads to Log Box. The quaint and quiet stay has three separate dwellings for both couples and groups. And it should be a hot contender for your next weekender.

The private property is just off the roadside, but the fact you have to get out of the car to open the gate dials up the ruralness, even though some of the best eating and drinking in the Victorian region is only a couple of minutes’ drive away (read: Tedesca Osteria and Many Little).

The rustic-presenting Cabin occupies a former milking shed, alongside a towering gum tree. Owner Chloe Burgess tastefully renovated it into somewhere you can really unplug – all earthy tones and beautiful artwork (which is for sale). Despite the distressed concrete floors and raw cypress beams, rust-coloured banquettes add cosiness, while the wood fire warms the open-plan space. There’s also a kitchenette inside and a private deck with a barbeque outside, suited for simple meals. Plus, you can get locally sourced produce delivered via Brutzy Box.

If you really want to soak up the landscape, the more petite Dairy cabin has a secret outdoor shower. And if you’re bringing a crew, the Green House sleeps four and offers a cosy communal area with a fireplace, alongside a group-friendly kitchen.

At the end of the day, be enveloped by the cushy king-sized beds, made up with buttery linen by labels like Cultiver. Then, in the morning, watch the sunrise without moving a muscle – through the huge picture windows – before heading out outside with your morning coffee (to hopefully see a mob of kangaroos making the green expanse their own).
