Little Rebel Roastery
Features
Finding good coffee in an unexpected place is always a rewarding experience. Case in point: Little Rebel Roastery, set in an industrial estate in Dromana. It has an alluring facade that invites passers-by to try some of the best coffee outside of Melbourne proper.
Husband and wife team Peter and Trish Roberts started the roastery in 2012, wholesaling their blends such as Black Sheep to cafes and residents on the Peninsula. They roast on two Roastmax roasters, allowing them to deliver more than 25 kilograms with each batch. As Little Rebel grew into a not-so-little roaster, the couple decided to add a cafe for those seeking Little Rebel's coffee direct from the source.
The cafe operates as a cellar door, offering rotating seasonal house blends and single-origin coffee, Monday to Friday. Espresso is pulled through a customised Black Eagle by Victoria Arduino. There are also two filter brews on tap, made with the same beans but steeped at different lengths and temperatures, so you can taste what effect these variables have. The roastery also creates bespoke blends for anyone who wants to mix and match.
While the cafe is chiefly geared towards coffee, those after food can munch on a sizeable toastie or treat themselves to the many cakes on offer.
