The Imperial Hotel

In a city full of iconic pubs, The Imperial on the corner of Union Street and Erskineville Road stands tall on a pair of glittering heels. This old dame has been a magnet and a safe space for Sydney’s LGBTQIA+ and drag communities for more than 40 years, and was famously a set piece in the 1994 film, Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.

The pub has lived many lives, and underwent a major renovation in 2016 to update the kitchens, main bar and rooftop spaces. If you’re after pub grub and a drag show, the main bar is your destination. For a slice of the good stuff, head to the rooftop for Neapolitan pies by Pizza Bros. As ever, The Imperial basement is where to go to see Sydney’s best and emerging queens strut their stuff.
