Canvas knows that cocktails and creativity go together like scotch and soda.

The vintage-style bar in Woolloongabba’s antiques shopping precinct adds a twist of low-key sophistication and a shot of imagination to your drinking endeavours, with cosy chesterfields, warm lighting and beverages for every mood.

When Bodie Schofield and Daniel Rodriquez took over Canvas in 2011 [Schofield has since left the business], they set about transforming what was then a small bar into a destination venue.

They added more retro furnishings and local art, built a courtyard and introduced an extensive menu of what they call Spanish-inspired southern cuisine, exemplified by tapas-style fish tacos and a pizza called Royale With Cheese.

The impressive list of seasonal cocktails features new twists on old favourites (the Perlini Belini combines chardonnay with peach flavours and aromatics) and winning inventions like The Liam Neeson (whisky with salted caramel and Poire Williams Eau de Vie Sweet Vermouth).

Of course, the staff can make you a custom cocktail if you tell them your preferred flavours. Or choose from the selection of international wine, beer and cider.

There’s nothing blank about this canvas – like a gentlemen’s club where everyone’s welcome, it manages to be as cosy as it is classy.
