Cabrito Coffee Traders

One of the clutch of new cafes and bars that are rejuvenating Sydney’s laneways, Cabrito Coffee Traders below Bulletin Place Bar has come into its own.

Owner Kit Cheong and business partner Michael Cookson have made the former little Japanese place look totally different from before – think sleek grey walls, the original rustic wood floor and a section of preserved historic paintwork.

A tight selection of sandwiches, toasties and lamingtons from Luscious Kiki (try the ambrosia, based on the eponymous salad) mean it’s a welcome addition to the city coffee landscape, and it’s open a little later than most hole-in-the-wall cafes.

There’s a lovely coffee roaster onsite turning out perfect cups of coffee, and to find it, keep an eye out for the goat logo above the door. Cabrito is Spanish for ‘little goat’, and the myth goes that Ethiopian goats get high on the coffee cherry.
