The Best Breakfast in Perth

Breakfast is the closest thing we have to a national cuisine. That’s clearest on the weekends. You’ll find Perth’s cafes abuzz with diners scraping their plates clean of smashed avo on sourdough, jazzed-up granola and more.

Here we pay tribute to Perth’s best – places shaping the very definition of the pre-midday meal. Others we’ve selected for consistent performance – they’ve nailed the classics and learnt how to handle the crowds that follow. Go on, get that morning started.

  • An aunty-approved congee and a Macca’s-inspired muffin sit comfortably together on Kith’s cusine-crossing menu. The tropical iced matcha – which combines mango, passionfruit, matcha and honey – is a highlight.

  • Nasi goreng or full Irish? There are no rules on the morning menu at the North Street Store crew’s 140-person dining room.

  • Nogi Lane is where an ex-Vasse Felix chef tweaks brunch classics by way of his Burmese and Indian heritage. Don’t go past the sambal chilli scrambled eggs or the fried chicken burger with kimchi.

  • This homage to Japan’s kissatens (coffee shops) serves curries, soups and traditional Japanese breakfast sets. Plus, matcha cheesecake and hojicha crème caramel.

  • There’s never a dull moment on Folklore’s Japanese-ish menu. Onigiri croissants, tomago katsu sandos and creamy salmon udon? Sign us up. This is a brunch destination worth travelling for.

  • This airy sandwich spot in an 1890s heritage-listed space does cool remixes of classic sandwiches including conti rolls, chicken-schnitty subs and an ode to the Sausage McMuffin.

  • Where morning classics meet Filipino flair. Go for breakfast burritos stuffed with longganisa and bright purple ube lattes.

  • A low-volume, high-quality bakery bringing you essential Perth pastries. Think French-style baked goods with an Asian twist.

  • Outstanding brekkies, house-made sweets and community vibes live at this family-run cafe, which is far more welcoming than the infamously low bridge it’s named after.

  • This bright and breezy cafe has the all-day dining format locked down. Come for restaurant-level brunches, and a high tea that’s more elevated than most.

  • An airy cafe brewing elite cups of Five Senses coffee, and serving a tight menu of classic brunch fare.

  • In an old shoemaker’s shop, the familiar and novel collide on a morning menu that’s seen everything from hash brown Benedict to tiramisu French toast grace the page.

  • Inside Como at the Treasury, this bright, all-day restaurant is serving upmarket breakfasts and crowd-pleasing Italian fare with plenty of twists. Also, an Italian-heavy wine list and classic cocktails.

  • The Ethos brunch menu only runs on weekends, but you can pair those Eastern European plates with bottomless mimosas and bloody Marys for 90 minutes for an additional cost. (It’s worth it.)

  • Its name might be Swedish, but the menu at this polished cafe is all over the map. Find Korean bulgogi hash, an American sloppy Joe and coffee by Grand Central.

  • Coffee is roasted in-house at this spacious spot. But there’s just as much focus on the brunches, from a brisket eggs Benny to house-made crumpets.

  • Holly’s colourful street-side mural is a beacon for crowd-pleasing brunches and high tea. There’s also a serious baking operation under the hood.

  • An inviting open-air cafe in a revamped precinct. The fit-out is breezy, there’s a deep focus on coffee, and the chef – an alum of Greenhouse – has a knack for resourceful cooking.

  • A meticulously imagined bistro where you can choose your own adventure. It effortlessly fits the “morning restaurant” description with paratha and crispy eggs, and key lime brioche French toast.

  • If you’re a jazz fan, you know Satchmo was Louis Armstrong’s nickname. This bagel-slinging cafe is just as cool. Come for New York and New Orleans-inspired brunches in a charming space.

  • A slice of sustainable comfort in Highgate. Come for brekkie that hasn't travelled far to be on your plate, and which is ethically and organically grown (where possible).

  • This dedicated bagel deli has captivated Perth’s carb lovers. Expect bagels that are perfectly chewy on the outside and soft on the inside. They might be stacked with juicy hand-made meatballs, crispy chicken parm or elevated curried egg.
