When Bed Threads launched in 2017, the Sydney label made flax-linen bedding a little more exciting (and attainable) for our boudoirs and our bank accounts. It’s since ventured into sleepwear, bathroom linen and tableware, but now it’s back to the bedroom with a new furniture range made specially for your sleep space.
Six years in the making — including two years of design and development — the line is a carefully curated nine-piece selection of bedroom essentials. There are delightfully curvy rattan and linen bedheads, bedside tables and sideboards, alongside a ceramic vase, a lamp and a travertine tray in warm and calming neutrals.
Bed Threads co-founder Genevieve Rosen says the pieces have a “permanently-on-vacation vibe” inspired by both Mediterranean and Australian coastal aesthetics. “When it came time to design the pieces, we were inspired by both modernity and tradition. Expect organic shapes, irregular and imperfect forms, and plenty of arches,” she tells Broadsheet.
The idea is to design for longevity, Rosen says, with pieces crafted from timeless natural materials like sustainable mango wood, rattan and linen, and made in limited quantities to avoid potential waste. The design process has also been heavily influenced by insights into what Bed Threads customers are actually looking for when it comes to decking out their bedrooms.
Rosen knows this because she’s fielded hundreds of furniture-related requests from Bed Threads fans over the years. Things like “where a bed frame was from, which bedside table would suit their space, and how to bring the whole look together”. The result is a collection that’s easy to live with and easy to put together, with no tools required for a promised “five-minute assembly”.
The new range is available online from Thursday April 27, with prices starting at $80 for bedroom accessories, $680 for the bedside table and up to $1799 for a bedhead, depending on the size you’re after. If you’re in need of styling help, there’s a handy furniture catalogue to click through, or just get inspiration from Rosen herself.
“I’m obsessed with the classic linen bedhead and matching side tables,” she says. “I just love the details on these pieces – the curves, the spherical legs and the rattan.”
