Childhood friends-turned-business partners Frankie Dicerto and Matthew Laurito bonded over food and music at an early age. Aye Frank, their Flinders Park cafe, combines these passions with sandwiches and an on-site recording studio.
If you're here to eat, the menu features a selection of seven panini and sandwiches made with house-baked bread and generous fillings. Combinations were designed by the owners and head chef Rhiannon Mercurio (formerly of Osteria Oggi, Pink Moon Saloon).
Standouts include the spicy ’nduja toasted with leg ham, scamorza cheese, eggplant and pickled green chilli. You’ll find more toasties, including classic ham and cheese lifted with pickled green tomato; and fresh rolls filled with mortadella, stracciatella and pistachio pesto. If you're chasing something sweet, there's a cabinet filled baked treats courtesy of Stepney's Prove Patisserie.
The stripped-back Grange Road space was once two shops: a laundromat and Buk Buk Southern Hot Chicken. After initially purchasing the laundromat, the pair expanded next door to incorporate a recording studio, which you can hire out for podcast and music recording sessions.
Pair a panini with batch brew or an espresso from local roasters Willow Bend, or a splash of natural wine. That's lunch – and maybe your debut hit record – sorted.
